About Hai Kang Life

Hai Kang Life Corporation Ltd. (HKLife), established in 1999, is a pioneering molecular diagnostic (MDx) company dedicated to revolutionizing clinical diagnostics and providing effective platforms for point of care (POC) applications focusing on personalized medicine as well as pre-emptive surveillance of emerging pathogens and diseases. It is strategically located at the hub of Asian biotechnology, whereby its research and testing laboratories are located in Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HK), a booming biotech hub, and Beijing, where there is an enormous opportunity to secure competitive leverage in the local biotech business.

HKLife products utilize molecular technologies, including the electric-field-assisted-diagnostic (EFAD) technology. This novel innovation incorporates a patented electric-field technology which allows for the identification of multiple pathogens simultaneously in a simple and cost-effective manner. The system’s simplicity and user-friendliness allow for effective diagnosis anywhere and everywhere. Nevertheless, this technology could assume a significant role in the near future in personalized medicine, disease surveillance, prognosis, the agnostics, and even cancer detection. With EFAD, HKLife delivers innovative and cutting-edge clinical solutions to the world, enabling rapid diagnosis and outbreak monitoring.

HKLife maintains the highest standards of excellence and accuracy in the testing industry. In 2000, we had established Hong Kong's first fully-dedicated commercial molecular testing and R&D laboratory, offering testing services to the research and industrial markets worldwide. Recognized globally as one of the leading genetically modified (GM) food testing laboratories in Asia, HKLife was the first commercial laboratory in Hong Kong to receive International Organization for Standardization (ISO) accreditation in this service (ISO 9001, 13485). Moreover, the company is now recognized as the Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS) accredited organization. The H5 Avian Influenza Virus Detection Kit was launched in 2000, applying advanced molecular biological techniques to provide immediate and sensitive detection of the flu virus that still continues to pose a threat globally. In addition to receiving several international accolades, this kit complies with the Chinese national standards (Guóbiāo, GB) and has served as a method reference for the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). Furthermore, HKLife has been approved by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (JMAFF) as a foreign veterinary product manufacturer.

HKLife has received global recognition for its excellence and breakthrough innovations in MDx testing services in Asia. The organization has been reported by several international media platforms, such as CNN and BBC on various occasions for its responsive and accurate response to the early years' outbreaks of infectious diseases, including Avian Influenza, Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

HKLife has greatly benefited from the solid relationships established with several government-owned health and agriculture agencies in various nations located throughout South East Asia, the Middle East and Europe. These associations aid in maneuvering quickly to assist during the emergencies, monitoring the climate of the biotech sector on a timely basis and keeping abreast of changing rules, regulations, needs and trends. In addition to being the recipient of 863 grant by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology to develop a Multiplex Pneumonia Detection System, the company was also one of the crucial members of the China National Task Forces for Pandemic Diseases, including SARS and Avian Influenza. Research papers discussing breakthrough MDx technologies developed by HKLife, such as Enhanced Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (ERT-PCR) and electric field assisted hybridization have been published in several high impact journals, including Nature Biotechnology, New England Journal Medicine, Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communication, Lancet and Science.

Owing to regular flu outbreaks during 1956-1958, 1968-1969, 2009, and 2018 and the 2003 SARS epidemic in Hong Kong, calls for an urgent need to research and develop comprehensive diagnostic products targeting infectious diseases. Dr. Margaret Chan witnessed and understood the risks of infectious diseases in densely populated HK during her tenure as the head of Department of Health, HK and later became the Director-General of WHO in 2007, where she was able to oversee and manage communicable diseases on a global scale. HKLife is intent on and equipped with enormous experience, knowledge and expertise in developing a disruptive diagnostic platform, BioRadar System, for global outbreak surveillance and management. The world requires a breakthrough innovative technology for effective diagnosis, and we are ready to deliver practical solutions to ensure health and safety of the society.
